Summer Edge Residential Program
Experience life on campus and get connected with important resources, staff and faculty while completing your first classes this summer with a cohort of other newly admitted students. Peer Mentors organize a ton of social and academic activities designed to help your transition to UC Santa Cruz and support you throughout the program.
2023 Residential Program Dates
Move-In - Friday, July 28
Classes Begin - Monday, July 31
Move-Out* - Saturday, September 2
*Transitional Housing (Optional): You can apply for Summer-Fall Transitional Housing if you want to stay on campus between summer and fall move-in, or you can go home and come back!
Register for Summer Edge to:
- Get 25% off of your summer tuition (this summer only).
- Take the required 2-credit course in Session 2 with other Edge students.
- Take a 5-credit course of your choice (we can help you choose!)
- Live with your cohort and Peer Mentors at Merrill College (even if you are affiliated with another college).
- Have access to a ton of activities, workshops and resources to help you succeed.
- Start making friends early!
Want more options?
If you are unable to join us on campus in Session 2, you can take your 7-credits 100% online. If the class you need is in Session 1, or an 8-Week, or 10-Week session, you can live on campus with Summer Session, without Edge programming or live-in Peer Mentors. The Summer Session Office is open all summer to support students. Email summeredge@ucsc.edu for the next steps.
Summer Edge is a 7-credit* minimum program. Most summer classes are taught at an accelerated five-week pace in Session 1 or Session 2 - individual classes may be offered in-person or online in a synchronous or asynchronous format, so make sure to check out the instruction mode of the class you are considering.
*All new students take the mandatory 1-credit Slug Orientation Course, regardless of participation in Summer Edge. For questions about this course, visit orientation.ucsc.edu.
