Edge Housing

Edge students live in the Porter College residence halls. Room options include shared (double, triple, quint) and a limited number of private (single) rooms. Additional amenities include Internet access, Cable TV, computer/technical support, and laundry facilities.

Each student receives an allocation of dining Slug Points based on the length of residency. Slug Points is a declining balance plan accepted at any open UC Santa Cruz Dining location.

While Edge students have the opportunity to connect with current UCSC students enrolled in Summer Session, separate housing is reserved especially for incoming first year and transfer students, your Peer Mentors, and Residence Assistants (RA). You have the opportunity to dorm together, experience residential life, and participate in on-campus events and activities organized by your Peer Mentors and RA.

Housing and dining are combined into one plan/application. Your contract includes an allocation of ‘Slug Points,’ which can be used at open campus dining halls or PERK Coffee Bars. Please see the UCSC dining page for more information on dining options during the summer.

Apply for Summer Edge Housing & Dining

  • Summer Edge Housing is for newly admitted first-year and transfer students enrolled in the Session 2 program. If you are adding housing for Session 1, 8-wk, or 10-wk classes, please use the ‘Summer Session’ application and choose the 10-week option.
  • Visit the Summer Edge Housing page for the rates and application.
  • The application opens May 1 at studenthousing.ucsc.edu. Housing priority is given to students who submit an application by May 20.

Move-in is followed by a weekend of welcome activities before classes begin on Monday, July 25.

Off-Campus Living:

  • Living on campus is not required. While the experience and personal growth are appealing, we understand local students might find it easier and more cost-effective to live home and commute. You are welcome and encouraged to attend optional Edge program events.
  • Off-campus students have the same campus access as on-campus students, including membership to the fitness center/courts/pool, use of our libraries, computer labs, cafes, etc.
  • All students receive a summer UCSC Student ID card that serves as an unlimited Metro pass.

Transitional Housing

  • Summer-Fall Transitional Housing is available to students living in Summer Edge Housing who also have a fall housing assignment. Students in Summer-Fall Transitional Housing will relocate to their fall housing assignment after the summer housing contract. Additional early arrival fees apply. Students apply for Transitional Housing as part of the Summer Edge housing application process (studenthousing.ucsc.edu).
