High School Registration

Registration Closed for 2021

  • Current high school sophomore or junior (some exceptions apply)
  • 3.0 minimum GPA
  • Minimum of 14 years old

First Steps:

  1. Submit your online registration (deadline extended until June 15).
    • Even if you took summer classes at UC Santa Cruz last year, all visiting students must register annually to enroll in courses.
  2. Pay the non-refundable $100 registration fee.
  3. Submit your Verification Form
    • We cannot complete your registration until we receive this online form
    • If your high school is closed, you can still email the main office. There is normally at least one staff person who can electronically receive and sign the DocuSign form.
  4. International students - we strongly recommend you meet English proficiency

*The deadline to register is separate from the deadline to enroll in a summer course. As long as you register by the deadline, you can add courses until the specific session add date. No exceptions made after the deadline.

Eligibility Exceptions:

The transition from high school to college-level coursework is significant, which is why we recommend that students complete their sophomore or junior year of high school before taking summer classes. Still, we acknowledge that individual high school students can be ready for this transition earlier. To qualify for an exception, you must:

  • Meet the 3.0 GPA requirement
  • Be minimum of 14 years old
  • Understand that any grades you receive will go on your permanent academic record
  • Have your high school counselor or principal agree to the exception on your DocuSign Verification Form

After You Register:

  • Staff will begin processing the moment your payment and verification forms are received. It can take 1-2 business days to set up your accounts.
  • When processing is complete, you will receive an email with details, confirming you are now active to enroll in summer classes. Enrollment opens for all students on May 1.
  • Please view our page on navigating MyUCSC for assistance with adding classes, changing passwords, etc.

Check Your UCSC Gmail:

  • Google powers the UCSC Email system. All faculty, staff, and students have an individual UCSC Google Gmail account (cruzID@ucsc.edu).
  • All official UC and UCSC communication is sent to your @ucsc.edu email address.
  • All instructors will contact you via your UCSC email, which is especially important with remote courses. All online course information will be sent exclusively to your UCSC Gmail account. Check your spam filters!

English Proficiency:

For Summer 2021, English language proficiency documentation (like TOEFL) is not required. To be successful, in the UCSC course work we recommend you have scores similar to these:

  • IELTS (International English Language Testing System): Overall band score of 6.5+
  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): Minimum score of 550 on the paper-based test or 80 on the Internet-based test
  • SAT (March 2016 or later) Writing & Language Test: 31+
  • ACT combined English-Writing or English Language Arts portion: 24+
  • AP English Language and Composition, or English Literature and Composition: 3, 4, or 5
  • IB in English: Literature, or Language and Literature: 6 or 7
  • Duolingo English Test (DET): Minimum of 115
