Peer Mentors

Summer Edge Peer Mentors are role models and peer advisors and will be your go-to for all questions related to being a student at UCSC.

Here to support your transition to academic and campus life at UCSC, Peer Mentors are second, third, and fourth-year UCSC students who are experienced leaders on campus, and some have gone through Summer Edge themselves!

They are passionate about working with students and will be available to provide guidance on anything related to academics, UCSC resources, navigating the campus, college life, and the ins and outs of Santa Cruz.

Peer Mentors live on campus as part of the Edge Residential Experience in Session 2 and organize a ton of fun in-person social and academic programs designed to help our newly admitted Slugs make friends and learn useful skills like Note-Taking and Time Management at a research-level university.

Meet your 2025 Summer Edge Peer Mentors!

Photo Peer Mentor Bella

Hi! My name is Bella and I’m a second year Psychology and Critical race and Ethnic Studies major. I am affiliated with Kresge College and love finding new spots around campus to watch the sunset. In my free time, I like to watercolor, make jewelry, crochet, and basically anything crafty. I really enjoy going to the beach and thrifting with friends; I love fashion! My favorite spot on campus is Biko Hill. Next year I will be the Stevenson African, Black, Caribbean (ABC) housing mentor for the 2025-26 school year. I’m super excited to be a mentor and can’t wait to get to know everyone this summer.

When I am not in class I am often working at the Sustainability Office, volunteering at the Seymour Center (Coastal Campus), or playing tennis on the club team! My favorite spot on campus is the Great Meadows (behind the recital hall). I spend down time tide pooling, surfing, thrifting, and exploring the nature of Santa Cruz.

Outside of classes I love to crochet, star gaze at the Porter Squiggle, or play around with my roommates cat! I spend most of time time on campus by studying for classes, hanging out with roommates, and meandering around campus. I’m also a tour guide for campus! My favorite spot on campus is the Porter Squiggle or Oakes Lower Lawn. My name is Gursimrat Pannu and I am a third year transfer at UCSC. My major is intensive psychology. My main goal, career wise is too work with children, specifically become a psychiatrist. I enjoy baking, spending time with friends and family, doing any outdoor activity, and sometimes gaming. My favorite activities to do are hiking and camping. My favorite spot on campus is the Squiggle. One of the main reasons I choose to enroll at UCSC was because of how beautiful it is! I am also a big horror fan in terms of movies, but I also enjoy action, adventure, and comedy. I look forward to meeting everyone 🙂

Hi! My name is Madison, I am a second year Applied Mathematics major. I started UCSC as a freshman in the Summer Edge program! My favorite spot on campus is East Field bench (specifically the one off to the side under a tree). I love spending my free time thrifting downtown and trying new restaurants. I am also involved with SheLifts on campus, an all female club centered around gym meet ups and being active! Feel free to ask me about it!

Photo Peer Mentor Edward

Hi everyone! I’m Edward, a Computer Science : Game Development major , and I’m just about to start my sophomore year. I’m an international student from China, but I was born in Korea and speak Chinese, Korean, and English fluently. I love walking around campus from time to time, and I’m really into playing TFT, League of Legends, volleyball, and working out. My favorite place on campus is the Science & Engineering Library. Like many of you, I was a freshman not too long ago. Honestly, my first quarter was a bit rough — I arrived late, missed orientation, and felt pretty lost at first. So if you ever feel unsure or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m happy to help however I can!

Peer Mentor Photo Annie

My name is Annie, and I’m a fourth-year Anthropology major with a minor in Legal Studies. I started as a First-Year student in Kresge as a part of the last class of freshmen allowed to live in apartments. My favorite spot on campus is the Stevenson Quad by the Stevenson Coffee House. I am a nature girl at heart with a sense of wanting constant adventures. I love going to the beach, taking myself on walks, staring at the clouds, stars, or sunrises/sunsets. I utilize the buses of Santa Cruz County a lot because they are free when showing your ID (except for the 17), but they can take you to places super different than our quaint, charming beach town. I have worked for the Dining Hall in the past, as well as one of the markets on campus. I have made use of my resources from CAPS for their mental health-focused support groups and EOP for their constant academic assistance. If you’re wondering what the resources on our campus can provide for you, ask me!!!
