Picking Transfer Courses

Summer Edge 2023 Information Coming Soon!

What is your goal for the summer?

  • We can help you pick a course to fulfill a major or GE requirement. Start by following the steps below, then either set up an appointment or email summeredge@ucsc.edu so we can work with you one-on-one.

The Basics

Step 1 - Picking Your 5-Credit

Use Advising Resources:

Review your Major Requirements (watch the video):

  1. Pick a course using the transfer course recommendations.
  2. Created by advisors for Edge students, your department recommends these courses to make significant degree progress this summer.
  1. Open the Registrar Catalog, click your degree.
  2. Click on Requirements and Planners at the top right.
  3. Scroll down to the Sample Transfer Planner
  4. Look at recommended fall quarter class. If it is offered over the summer, it could an option.

Step 2 - Video Resources:

Step 3 - Once You Have Classes In Mind

Once you have classes in mind, you'll want to explore schedules and look for any summer-specific instructions, then you will be ready to add!

Visit Class Search to see course dates & times. You are looking for Summer Session 2 courses so be sure to select:

  • Term "2022 Summer Quarter"
  • Session “Summer Session 2 (5 Weeks)”
  • Status “All Classes”

Class Notes

If you are interested in a class, check the "Class Notes" section of each class for any summer-specific details. Follow the directions for "UCSC Students" or "All Students." You are not considered a "Visiting Student."

Math Placement

  • If you’ve successfully completed a transferable college-level pre-calculus or calculus course, upload your grade or score to the summer math Google form. Even if you have submitted your scores to UCSC for the fall, they will not be processed in time for summer enrollment.
  • If you do not have a transferable college-level pre-calculus or calculus course, or a sufficiently high Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) Calculus test score, you will need to complete the Math Placement process using ALEKS PPL. Once you complete the test - wait 3-5 business days for your scores to process, then based on your placement, you will be able to add the appropriate summer course.
