First Year Edge Course Enrollment


Once you have completed all the steps to register for First Year Edge and have been emailed your Gold and Blue UCSC login credentials, please see below for the next steps on course enrollment. 

During Session 2, you take a minimum of two courses for a total of 7 credits. You can also add additional credits by taking a Session 1, 8-week, or 10-week course. As long as you remain enrolled in STEV 26, you will receive 25% off tuition. 

Remote Course #1 (required)
Session 2

  • Navigating the Research University (STEV 26) - This is not a rudimentary class. On the contrary, it is full of reflective learning assignments aimed to focus students on academic and career exploration. Learn more about the course, instructors, and review past syllabi here.
  • To enroll in this course, log in to my.ucsc.edu and click "Enrollment." Next, click "Class Search" from the list on the left hand side of the page. In your class search subject include "Stevenson College." Scroll to the bottom and click "Search." There are several sections of STEV 26 - pick the one that works best for your schedule. Click here for instructions on how to navigate your MyUCSC portal. 
  • Credits: 2

Remote Course #2 (required)
Session 2

  • A course of your choice offered during session 2. Choose from the list your academic advisers put together for you! The list is not restrictive, you are able to take classes outside the list too.
  • Take an intro class to get a feel for a discipline, tackle a prerequisite for fall, take advantage of smaller class sizes and complete a General Education requirement, pursue an area of study you are passionate about. Start your degree, GPA, and the path to graduation strong!

  • Credits: 5 
Advanced Academic English
(required for some international students only)
  • ACEN 110A: Click here to review a prior year syllabi for a course description and workload expectations.
  • Enrollment process: You will be automatically enrolled in this course, depending on your TOEFL, IELTS, ACT scores. There will be no need for an additional writing assessment when you arrive on campus.
  • Credits: 5 
Remote Course #3 (optional)
Session 1, 8-wk, 10-wk
  • You have the option to add an additional course of your choice offered during Session 1, 8-week, or 10-week. Explore courses by department or GE code. You can also take a prerequisite class in Session 1 that you need for your Session 2 course. As long as you remain enrolled in STEV 26, you will receive 25% off tuition. 
  • The remote nature of Summer Session this year provides a unique opportunity for students to earn more discounted credits than usual before fall.
  • Keep in mind that these are condensed, five-week classes with demanding schedules, so prioritize your time wisely. Note, tuition is charged per credit, so additional classes mean additional tuition (and, if eligible, additional financial aid).

AP and IBH
The university grants credit for College Board Advanced Placement (AP) Examinations on which a student scores 3, 4, or 5 and for International Baccalaureate Higher Level (IBH) Examinations on which a student scores 5, 6, or 7. For more information, please see the admissions AP and IBH table.

Here are the UCSC articulations with AP scores:  
  • AP CALC AB: Score 3:  Applied Mathematics and Statistics 3 and Mathematics 3. 
  • AP CALC AB: Score 4,5:  Applied Mathematics and Statistics 3, Mathematics 3, Mathematics 11A, and Mathematics 19A 
  • AP CALC BC: Score 3:  Applied Mathematics and Statistics 3, Mathematics 3, Mathematics 11A, and Mathematics 19A
  • AP CALC BC: Score 4,5:  Applied Mathematics and Statistics 3, Mathematics 3, Mathematics 11A and 11B, and Mathematics 19A and 19B
