Course Enrollment

Summer Academy course enrollment: May 1 – August 2, 2018

Once you have completed all steps to register for the Summer Academy, please see below for next steps on course enrollment. Students take two courses for a total of 7 credits.

Course #1 (required)
Navigating the Research University (STEV 26) - Section 01 or Section 02

Course #2 
If you are not required to take the Advanced Academic English course, you may enroll in a second course of your choice offered during session 2. Choose from the list your major academic advisers put together for you!

Credits: 5

Enrollment process: Self-enroll 

Once you have registered for the Summer Academy and have been emailed your Gold and Blue UCSC login credentials from the Summer Session office, login to to add/drop summer courses. Click here for instructions on how to navigate your MyUCSC portal.

Take an intro class to get a feel for a discipline, tackle a prerequisite for fall, take advantage of smaller class sizes and complete a General Education requirement, pursue an area of study you are passionate about. Start your degree, GPA, and the path to graduation strong!

Advanced Academic English (required for some students)

Credits: 5
Enrollment process: You will be automatically enrolled in this course depending on your TOEFL, IELTS, ACT scores. There will be no need for an additional writing assessment when you arrive on campus.
Guidance on selecting courses:
Important reminder: The Summer Academy takes place during Session 2 of the summer quarter. Please select course(s) offered during Session 2.
  • Check the Course Highlights for a list of suggested courses for incoming frosh from the Academic Advising community.
  • Explore summer courses on class search, select the ‘Summer Quarter’ term and ‘Summer Session 2 (5 Weeks).

  • Interested in getting a General Education Requirement met? Read up on UCSC’s GE Requirements.
  • The university grants credit for College Board Advanced Placement (AP) Examinations on which a student scores 3, 4, or 5 and for International Baccalaureate Higher Level (IBH) Examinations on which a student scores 5, 6, or 7. For more information, please see admissions AP and IBH table.
