Summer Academy is an exciting opportunity for all new slugs to transition into a world-class research institution. You’ll get a head start on degree requirements while experiencing a rigorous academic environment with dedicated faculty in small classes that support your success.

Living in the residence halls with Peer Mentors and Resident Assistants, you will not only make great connections with peer mentors, classmates, and roommates but also learn how to navigate campus life. Summer Academy also includes a ton of fun, including Bay Area road trips and exploration of the University’s unique location, culture, community, and identity. 


After accepting your admission to UCSC for fall. Follow these steps:

  1. Register for the First Year Academy before the June 15 deadline (if you're an international student who needs I-20 documents, do not register here, instead use this easy process found here.)
  2. Submit Financial Aid Information
  3. Enroll in Courses
  4. Register for Summer Orientation 
  5. Submit Housing Application
  6. Accept or Waive UC Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP)
  7. Meet the UC-wide Immunization and Tuberculosis (TB) risk screening compliance requirement
  8. Confirm your attendance
  9. Get Packing!
  10. Summer Academy: First Year runs from Tuesday, July 23 – Saturday, August 31, 2019
