Housing

On-campus housing is required for all First-Year and International Academy students. Summer Academy students are housed at one of UCSC’s ten beautiful colleges

While Academy students have the opportunity to connect with current UCSC students enrolled in Summer Session, separate housing is reserved especially for Academy students, their Peer Mentors, and Residence Assistants (RA). Summer Academy housing gives Academy students the opportunity to dorm together, get to know one another, experience residential life at UCSC, and participate in on-campus events and activities organized by their Peer Mentors and RA.

Dining

Academy students are given access to open dining halls, coffee bars, cafes, and other eateries on-campus for the duration of the program.

Housing and dining are combined into one plan/application. Students are allocated a balance of ‘Slug Points’ which can be used at any campus dining hall, or PERK Coffee Bar with their student ID card. Please see the UCSC dining page for more information on dining options during the summer.

Apply for Summer Academy Housing & Dining

  • Once you have successfully completed all steps to register for the Summer Academy program, please see UCSC’s Summer Academy Housing page for more information about how to apply.
  • First Year Academy students submit the First Year Academy housing application.
  • Once you have been assigned to a room, you will receive an auto-generated confirmation email. (You may have already received a separate confirmation if your fall housing assignment has been made.) A few days after you receive your confirmation email, you will be able to view your room assignment and roommate(s) information in the student housing portal.
  • Do not be alarmed if your application is "pending." Your Housing Coordinator is currently working on assignments. Each application is personally read and hand-matched.

Summer Academy Move-in*

  • First Year Academy students will move into Porter College on Tuesday, July 23 from 9 AM - 1 PM. Parking will be in the Performing Arts Lot. You will receive an email from the housing office with directions and move-in details.
  • If you cannot move in during the allotted times, you must contact the Summer Housing Coordinator at academyhousing@ucsc.edu to get approval for late arrival. We ask, however, that you make your best effort to arrive during the designated move-in times.
  • Move-in is followed by welcome activities before classes begin on Monday, July 29. The first few days on campus include events and activities such as the Summer Academy Meet & Greet, important residence halls meetings, hikes, campus tours, BBQ and bonfire at Seabright Beach and other fun times in and around Santa Cruz!

    (1)
Forward airline-issued itinerary (not a screenshot, the whole email please)
    (2) Student’s cell phone number (not the parents)

If you are arriving before or after July, 23 or departing before or after August 31 or miss the July 1 deadline to schedule a shuttle, you are responsible for your own transportation to campus. We recommend the following providers: Santa Cruz Airport Flyer, Santa Cruz Airport Shuttles, Early Bird Airport Shuttle, and Echo’s Airport Express.

Transitional Housing

  • If Academy students would like to remain living on campus between the time that Summer Academy housing ends on August 31 and when fall quarter begins, there is the option of applying for transitional housing. Information about transitional housing can be found on the Summer Academy Housing web page.
