Meet the Peer Mentors

Summer University students have dedicated peer mentors. These mentors live with residential students on their floor and are available to support them.

Peer mentors wear many hats. They do everything from providing directions to class, to talking to students about how they chose their majors, to demystifying the bus system. An invaluable resource, these UC Santa Cruz experts are invested in the success of all Summer University students.

2020 Peer mentors will be announced in the spring, but you can meet the 2019 mentors below.

    Second-Year Literature Major, Education Minor

Hey y'all my name is Paige Andersen and I use she/her/hers pronouns. I am a second-year student here at UCSC majoring in Literature and minoring in Education! I truly have a passion for this university and the power of education and I feel extremely honored to be able to share this passion with all of y'all. I am currently the Vice Chair of Stevenson Student Council, one of our ten residential colleges, and have created The "For Me" Collective a safe space to meet new people, practice self-healing, and foster group support for all my fellow Banana Slugs. This past summer I was a Summer Orientation leader for incoming UCSC freshman and transfer students and was heavily involved in the facilitation of Welcome Week for this past year's freshman class. As an aspiring teacher, I want to be an approachable and knowledgeable resource for all of you and hope that I can be an amazing mentor for all of you dedicated high schoolers! This campus is truly something special and I am beyond thrilled to show it to y'all! Fun fact: I love to cook and I write my own recipes! I can't wait to meet all of you this summer!

Second-Year, Biomolecular Engineering and Bioinformatics Major

Hey everyone and welcome to UC Santa Cruz! My name is Alfonso and I am a Biomolecular Engineering and Bioinformatics major entering my second year of college in the fall of 2019. I grew up in the Central Valley and then later moved to Ventura County where I went from attending Santa Paula High School to the UCSC First Year Academy last summer. Attending the summer program before starting my college education really prepared me for my first year so I am happy to be helping guide students for a similar experience. Please don't hesitate to ask me any questions about anything; I can't wait to meet you all in the summer!
