Parking is a limited resource on campus, so we encourage students not to drive to campus. Your Student Transit Fee supports a multitude of commute programs that allow you to get to campus without bringing your car. Comprehensive transportation information is available at www2.ucsc.edu/taps.

Campus-wide Shuttle & Metro Bus Service
Your student ID card with a valid summer session sticker serves as a bus pass for all ten weeks of Summer Session. Metro bus information is available on'line at www.scmtd.com, or pick up a copy of Metro Headways bus schedule available on Metro buses and at Transportation Information Centers throughout campus. Schedule information can also be obtained through Metro Customer Service by calling (831) 425-8600. Metro bus service is available throughout Santa Cruz County with your valid Student ID card.

NEW! The Metro Bus system has added more bus service to the campus for summer, which does NOT appear in the printed "Headways" schedule.  Download the update here as a PDF.

Campus shuttles serve the entire campus including the East Remote and West Remote parking lots. For route and schedule information on campus shuttles visit the TAPS web site at www2.ucsc.edu/taps/daynighttransit.html or call (831) 459-3228.

Bicycles
All Santa Cruz Metro buses have bike racks that accommodate up to two bikes, so you can bring your bike to campus for commuting or recreational purposes. Transportation and Parking Services (TAPS) also operates a free morning bike trailer and van from the east side of Olive Street, next to the Mission Street Longs Drugstore (near Mission & Bay). You can shuttle your bike up the hill in the morning and enjoy the ride down in the afternoon! The Bike Shuttle operates Monday ' Friday mornings. Call (831) 459'3228 for 2007 summer schedule information.

Campus Parking
I f you do need to drive to campus, permits are required for all vehicles parking on campus. Parking regulations are enforced 24 hours a day, including weekends, holidays, and summer. In most parking lots, permits are required Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-8:30 PM. However, in some lots permits are required for extended hours so it's important to read the signs at the entrance to the lot before parking. Parking maps and a list of parking regulations are available in the TAPS Sales Office in the H Barn. If you need to temporarily park outside of a marked parking space to load or unload or if you have run out of gas, you will need to call the Police Department immediately to avoid receiving a citation. Please call (831) 459'2231 and be prepared to give the vehicle's location, description and license number.

Summer Session students can purchase permits for the three remote parking lots on campus. Remote parking is the less expensive parking option at $3.50 per day with campus shuttles serving the remote parking lots frequently. Remote permits can be purchased on a daily, weekly, monthly, or session basis. A limited number of close-in parking permits that allow you to park near some (but not all) colleges will be available by session until sold out; no daily, weekly or monthly close-in permits will be sold.

For the parking permit rate chart, see
www2.ucsc.edu/taps/summersessionparking.html .

To avoid long waits in line at the Transportation and Parking Services Sales Office (TAPS), beginning May 15, please apply on-line at
www2.ucsc.edu/taps/summersessionparking.html.

Students may apply for summer session parking starting May 15th, 2008. To apply, please use the on-line application provided on the TAPS web site at:
http://www2.ucsc.edu/taps Parking permit rates and locations of close-in parking will be available at the time the on-line application is activated.
Payment using Visa or MasterCard is accepted for on-line purchases; cash, check or credit card is accepted in person at the TAPS Sales Office.

Payment must be received at least one week prior to the start of the session in order to receive the permit by mail; your parking permit will be sent to the address you provide in the on-line application. If payment is received less than one week prior to the start of the session permits must be picked up at the TAPS Sales Office when you arrive on campus. Please expect longer than usual wait times if you do not apply on-line and have your permit mailed or if you opt to pick up or purchase a parking permit when you arrive on campus.

The TAPS Sales Office is located in the H Barn near the main entrance to campus. TAPS Sales Office hours are 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The TAPS Sales Office phone number is 831-459-4543.

Students must submit or show a valid vehicle registration to purchase a permit. When purchasing a permit through the TAPS on-line application center, vehicle registrations may be faxed to 831-459-1366, mailed to Transportation & Parking Services, UCSC-H Barn, 1156 High St., Santa Cruz, CA 95064, or delivered in-person to the TAPS Sales Office.

Please Note: Purchase of a campus parking permit does not exempt students from paying the mandatory transit fee (abt. $200 per student).

Zipcars at UC Santa Cruz
In Fall 2007, UCSC contracted with Zipcar to introduce a new sustainable transportation program called car sharing on campus - a convenient alternative to having a personal car on campus. Zipcar is a membership-based car rental program providing self-service access to vehicles on campus, 24/7. At UCSC, all eligible UCSC students 18 years of age and older can join Zipcar for affordable, convenient access to a car when needed. UCSC has Zipcar vehicles conveniently located on campus, two are located at the East Field House Parking Lot 103 & two at the upper College Eight Parking Lot 146, with additional vehicles coming to other campus locations soon.
