Summer Academy course enrollment will become available May 1 - August 3. 

Once you have received an email from Summer Session with your Blue and Gold UCSC passwords you will be able to log in to your MyUCSC student portal and enroll in summer courses.

Navigating the Research University explores critical engagement in education at research universities tailored to incoming frosh. The course introduces ways to participate academic life and investigates strategies for clarifying educational goals and devising a plan for success here at UCSC. This course is required to participate in teh First Year Academy. Academy students must remain enrolled in this course to receive the exclusive 25% off Summer Academy tuition discount.

Required for some students: Advanced Academic English (ACEN 110A) If you scored high on the writing placement, instead of enrolling in Advanced Academic English, you may enroll in a second course of your choice

Enrollment process: You will be automatically enrolled in this course depending on your writing placement score, which will be taken upon arrival at UCSC. Enrollment process: Self-enroll

Students develop an academic vocabulary and successful reading strategies in English in order to understand high-level academic texts. Students also practice pronunciation and apply the rules of grammar to written and spoken academic language through weekly oral presentations and written assignments. Click here to view last year's syllabi, this will give you an idea of the course's workload.
