University Housing
Summer Session students interested in university housing may apply to live in the College Eight residence halls. Living in the residence halls provides students with the opportunity to meet and interact with other college students from UC Santa Cruz and other campuses, cities, states, and countries.

College Eight offers double (two-person) and a limited number of single (one-person), triple, and quad (four-person) living accommodations with shared bathroom facilities and community space. Additional amenities include high-speed Internet access, cable television, telephone services, computer/technical support, and laundry facilities.

Live-in residential staff (Resident Assistants (RA) and a Coordinator for Residential Education) provides community development activities and social programs throughout the Summer Session to create a sense of community among the summer residents. The staff members are all trained in conflict resolution and crisis intervention, emergency procedures, as well as university policies and regulations. They are available to you as a resource for on- and off- campus information. Most importantly, your Resident Assistant is there to help assist you with your questions, concerns, or problems and just to listen.

Based on student feedback and a commitment to provide residential Summer Session students with a dining program that offers flexibility, variety and value, we are introducing a new Slug Points dining plan. Slug Points is a declining balance dining plan accepted at any open UC Santa Cruz Dining location (campus dining hall(s), PERK coffee carts, Owl'..s Nest Caf', and Terra Fresca Restaurant). The variety of dining locations provides the greatest flexibility possible and adds significant operating hours. Value is maximized so you can choose how many points to spend at any time '.. purchase a meal, a snack, or just a cup of coffee. Students who use their Slug Points to purchase a meal in the dining halls will receive a special discounted price.

Each residential student receives an allocation of Slug Points based on the length of residency. Slug Points have a 100% value when used and the amount spent is simply deducted from your dining plan (each Slug Point has a value of $1).  Slug Points are accessed with your student ID and are valid from the first day of the contract period through the last day of Summer Session.

To Apply for Summer Session Housing
The Summer Session Housing Application/Contract is available online (studenthousing.ucsc.edu) beginning April 20, 2009.

Housing is limited and priority will be given to students who submit a housing application and the required payment on or before May 31, 2009.
  • UCSC students may log in and complete the application anytime. Visiting students must meet the following criteria before becoming eligible to apply: 1) be enrolled in a Summer Session term; and 2) be assigned a seven-digit Student ID Number by the Summer Session Office. You must have this ID number in order to apply for housing.
  • Follow the step-by-step instructions for completing the online housing Application/Contract and Lifestyle Questionnaire.
  • Be sure to thoroughly read the Terms and Conditions of residence. It is extremely important for you to understand both your responsibilities and those of the University. You are required to agree to these Terms and Conditions before you will be able to submit your application. When you are assigned a housing space, the online application will then become a confirmed contract and can only be cancelled according to these Terms and Conditions.
  • After submitting your online application/contract you will be sent an acknowledgement email. This email will include your application number and a summary of the preferences expressed on your application/contract for you to retain for your records.
Payment and Billing
As part of the online application process, you will be required to print a "Billing Statement" and return it, with full payment, to the Campus Housing Office (address included on the statement form). Accepted forms of payment include personal check, cashiers check, money order, or credit card. Full payment must be received within two weeks of the date you submit your application or prior to move-in, whichever is sooner. Failure to do so may void your application.
