The Financial Aid and Scholarship Office has limited funding available for UCSC undergraduate students enrolled in 6 or more units in Summer Session and Summer Travel Study Programs. Graduate student requirements can be found below.

Undergraduate Students
Although funding for summer is limited, financial aid is available for current UC Santa Cruz students. You must submit a 2010-11 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and meet the following eligibility requirements:
  • You are a current UC Santa Cruz student and will not have graduated before Summer Session begins (or you can document that the course you are taking in summer is required for admission to graduate school)
  • You are making satisfactory academic progress toward your degree. Students who are academically barred or disqualified are not eligible to receive aid
  • You complete a financial aid application for 2010-11 by submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and all requested documents by June 30, 2011
  • You enroll in a minimum of six (6) units during one UC Santa Cruz Summer session or a combination of Summer sessions (i.e. sessions I and II, or in a 7, 8, or 10 week session) - see a list ofone-, two-, three- and seven-credit courses
    offered this summer.

If you meet the requirements above, you will automatically be considered for financial aid.

If you plan to enroll at another UC Campus, you must complete and submit the Intercampus (Summer) Financial Aid Application to our office by no later than June 17, 2011. You may use summer aid awarded by UC Santa Cruz for attendance in a summer program at another UC campus.

Your eligibility for summer session financial aid will be determined based on annual award limits as well as on financial aid resources used during the academic year which ends in June.

  • Federal Pell Grants- If you received a Federal Pell Grant during the 2010-11 academic year, you may be eligible to receive a Pell Grant during the summer.

Receiving Your Financial Aid and Paying Summer Session Charges

  • If you are eligible for financial aid, the Summer Session Office will NOT require you to pay your fees before you receive your aid. Just prior to the beginning of the session in which you are enrolled, your financial aid will be applied to your Summer Session charges.
  • If your aid does not pay all your charges, you are responsible for paying remaining charges.
  • If you enroll in Summer Session I and Summer Session II, your grant aid will be divided equally between these two sessions.
  • If you enroll at another UC Campus, your financial aid from UC Santa Cruz will be paid to you directly and it is your responsibility to pay your summer charges.
  • If your aid exceeds your charges, Student Business Services will refund financial aid credit balances remaining after all UC Santa Cruz Summer Session charges are paid on or around the first day of the Session.

Financial Aid Adjustments for Dropping Classes and/or Withdrawing
  • You must officially drop your courses by the published drop deadlines so that you are not charged for them. Dropping classes may affect your eligibility for aid. If you drop a class after financial aid has credited your billing account, you may be billed for aid you received but were not eligible to receive due to the reduction in course load.
  • The Financial Aid Office will review your enrollment as of the add/drop deadline for each session. Financial aid will be adjusted/canceled if you enroll in less than half-time (6 units for undergraduates and 5 units for graduates) as of the add/drop deadline. You will be required to repay any financial aid you received if your enrollment for summer drops below half-time.
  • If you are receiving aid and plan to withdraw completely from Summer Session and receive Ws in your courses, please contact the Summer Session Office for a withdrawal form. If you withdraw during a session, you may need to repay some or all of the aid you received.

Financial Aid Offer Cancellations
Financial aid offers not accepted by the last day of instruction of the session for which you enrolled will be canceled and cannot be reinstated.
