Summer Senior Audit Card

If you will be at least fifty-five years old by June 22, 2009, you are eligible to purchase a Summer Senior Audit Card for just $25! This card will enable you to audit Summer Session courses offered at the beautiful University of California Santa Cruz campus.

The Summer Senior Audit program is sponsored by UCSC Summer Session to recognize the commitment to continuing education that seniors represent, and to support UCSC's mission of community service. An educated citizenry makes for a healthier community, vibrant with the free exchange of ideas and ideals.

As a Senior Auditor, you are accepted into the course by the instructor and may participate in class discussions, ask questions, and participate in other course activities, but you may not submit papers, take exams, or receive grades or credit for those courses.

You may audit courses in all disciplines, with the exception of science labs, foreign languages, art courses, and most courses that have an enrollment limit (which will be stated in the course description).

We also recommend that you have recently taken any prerequisites which the courses have or have a current familiarity with the subject material. In addition, several instructors have specifically indicated that they encourage seniors to attend their courses.

To become a Summer Senior Auditor, complete the application form (after April 20) and send it, proof of your age, and $25 in check or money order (payable to UC Regents) or a credit card number, to UCSC Summer Session. (The $25 application fee is non-refundable once the application has been processed and ID card issued.)

We will mail your Summer Senior Audit Card to you along with the Summer Session 2009 Catalog. Then choose your course(s) from the course listing. (The few courses with enrollment limits will have this noted at the end of the course description.) Simply show up for the first class session, show the instructor your Summer Senior Audit Card, and ask for permission to audit the class.

You may audit as many courses as you want, and can easily change from one course to another if you choose. All that is required is the permission of the instructor of the course you wish to attend.
